An Otolaryngologist is a doctor trained in the medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT) and related structures of the head and neck, including sinuses, larynx (voice box), mouth, and face. Most commonly referred to as an ENT surgeon or specialist.

Dr Butler’s comprehensive training, international fellowship expertise, and active roles in clinical practice and medical education underscore her expertise in head and neck surgery, in particular thyroid surgery. 

Thyroid surgery is required for many different reasons, usually involving removing part or all of the thyroid. Voice change is a risk associated with thyroid surgery.  Voice recovery is an often overlooked post-surgical priority and can require carefully supported measures such as voice physio and speech therapy as required. 

As an Otolaryngologist, Dr Butler is able to assess the vocal cords prior to and following surgery, and help manage any post operative concerns regarding voice.
